Issues and Stances
EducationBryan Like holds education in high regard and believes it to be the foundation of our future. Without knowledge our citizens will suffer. He is in favor of strengthening the standards that our state places on education. When a school district faces a budget crisis they should not be allowed to cut areas of education.
Bryan wants to see Missouri offer two years of free higher education for graduating high school seniors. This desire is to go beyond what the Missouri A+ Scholarship Program provides. Bryan also wants our schools to teach life skills necessary for students to be independent in adulthood. These skills will range from filling out mortgage applications, filing taxes, paying bills, completing the W4, and many other crucial areas that young adults can be blindsided by. EmploymentBryan is in favor of raising minimum wage and supports unions. As a former member of a union he knows what it is like to work in an environment where the employee's best interest would not be met by the employer unless there was union representation. For many workers in Missouri the only person advocating for them on the job is their local union. "Right to Work" is not appropriate for Missouri.
Safe Educational EnvironmentIt is time for our state to be proactive instead of retroactively pushing for legislation after a crisis. Having stronger security standards and protection for our schools is paramount in providing a safe environment that is conducive to learning for our students.
Our college students are being preyed upon. Just walking to their car or dorm at night puts them at risk for being victimized. Our students are being raped and the college administration sits back and does nothing, all while our victimized students have to attend the same school as the person who they were raped by. Students should not have to endure racist graffiti, being singled out in class or called racial or sexist slurs while they are seeking education to better their future and pursue a passion. Let's protect our students and the future of our state before we have to sit back and say, "You know what, we should've passed that legislation a long time ago." That time is now. |
Equal PayThe fact that a gap exist between wages for men and women is a travesty. This is not a topic that should be tabled and not on the agenda of our representatives and public officials. The gap needs to be closed. Missouri needs to do better.
Medicaid Expansion and ResourcesOur citizens need support. Medicaid needs to be expanded. When citizens have a need that they cannot match in their situation the government exist to assist them. Our government needs to know when to help citizens and when to get out of their way. The best thing for our state is to expand Medicaid.
Doctors vs Politicians vs MarriageLet's let the doctors inform women on what they think is appropriate for their body and health. While Bryan believes that life is precious and begins at conception, he would not vote to limit health resources for women.
Bryan is also against the constitution being the final say in what constitutes marriage. What could be next? Bills proposed to define "friend." JusticeSystemic racism needs to be dismantled. It is impossible for the parameters that hinder people of color to be eliminated if our representation "doesn't see color" or if they fail to understand that there is a race problem in our state. In many ways systemic racism is seen and perpetuated by having representation (ironically enough) that is "ignorant" to citizen's struggles and "cannot" see how a system is designed to repress their progression.
Our state should be ashamed of how African Americans are over-represented in jail. Let's make Missouri a leading state in our nation that brings about change Legalization of MarijuanaBryan's view is very simple. Legalize it, tax it.
